Sickness Cover of £150 per week for just 60p per week.

The Norfolk Police Federation administers the Sickness Insurance Scheme as part of its service to members.

Since the 1st September 1995 all officers who have had six months or more sickness in the preceding twelve months will be reduced to half pay (Regulation 28 – Pay During Sick Leave).

Home Office guidance states when the Chief Constable has discretion to retain an officer on full pay. In general terms this is when an officer is suffering from an injury/illness sustained/contracted in the execution of duty; a potentially terminal illness; or an illness/injury which is being considered under ill health retirement process.  However, it is discretionary and is not applied in all cases leaving officers at risk of half and nil pay.

This leaves a considerable void for all long-term sick officers who could find themselves on half pay. For the payment of £2.64 per month (this amount includes the premium, insurance premium tax where appropriate and our administration fee) George Burrows, the providers of our Group Insurance Scheme, offer a benefit of £150 per week tax free for six months to any officer who is sick, or injured off duty and has had his/her pay reduced as a result of Regulation 28.

Completed application forms should be returned to the Federation Office at Wymondham.
